Forget about trendy glam shots, lights & staging.

This is real functional Pilates, sweat & grit, with long lasting understanding of correct movement at Bamboo Bay Pilates & Functional Movement Studio.

Educate ⚪ Mobilise ⚪ Stabilise ⚪ Strengthen

  • A group of women participating in a yoga or fitness class in a studio, with exercise mats on the floor, some standing and one sitting on a green mat with headphones and reading material.

    KNOWLEDGE FIRST

Relearning optimal movement patterns requires unlearning habitual compensations.

By learning to assess and intergrating foundational mobility, stability and intentional motor control, the central nervous system can rewire dysfunctional habits and restore movement quality.

Assess your movement pattern first which will help you pinpoint where your restrictions and imbalances lie.

  • A woman exercising in a gym, stretching with her body bent forward and one arm over her head.

    MOBILITY

    You cannot successfully load or build muscle on a compromised foundation;
doing so reinforces compensations, overloads joints and often leads to injury.

To build lasting muscle safely, structural integrity and range of motion must be prioritized first.

  • A woman with black hair in a black tank top and black shorts practicing yoga on a purple mat in a sunny, open studio. The mirror behind her shows a group of women performing similar poses, with a support person taking a photo. Text overlays indicate her pelvic tilt and stability is lacking, and measurements of her back and side are provided.

    STABILITY

    What is Stability?

Can you control balance and alignment while remaining completely still ?

Stability relies on keeping your body’s center of gravity over your base of support. For example standing on 1 bent leg.

Are you able to keep your hip bones of your pelvis level with each other, or do you notice a downward dip?

  • Group of diverse people doing downward dog yoga pose on mats in a yoga studio with exercise balls and weights in the background.

    STRENGTH

Once you gain the knowledge of proper biomechanics, now you can maximize your true power potential.

MOBILITY builds the range of motion,
    STABILITY controls it, and
    STRENGTH reinforces it.

“Strength is useless without control” - Michelle Montgomery

  • "Michelle’s training in physiotherapy combined with pilates makes her an expert in injury prevention and recovery. With her incredible memory for names and medical history, she offers individual modifications even in a group class. She actually remembered the MRI I showed her years ago. She’ll cheerfully “torture” you by training deep muscles that typical gym routines often miss. And guys — don’t think the pointed feet are just for women :) In fact, at least a third (if not half) of the regulars at Power Pilates are men, and all of us feel the workout afterwards! If you like to mix it up, the HIIT classes are another great option at Bamboo Bay Pilates & Functional Movement Studio!"

  • "Once I started I never missed a class. Immediately felt Michelle was very interested in how your body was doing and and how to correct all your bad habits 😉 She puts huge energy into every class making sure we all were aligned correctly. A very dedicated, energised, and warm teacher with a devoted group of students. My body moves now it ways it hasn't for decades. Thoroughly recommended!!"

  • "Love Bamboo Bay Pilates so much! I discovered this amazing studio and the owner/trainer; Michelle, back in February and it helped kickstart a real passion for pilates, which I have been training ever since. I have no more pain from old injuries and feel fit and supple. Michelle is one of the nicest people you could meet and her technical knowledge is incredible. She pays a lot of attention to all her students and you really feel you're getting 121 tarinign in the classes. If you are on Phangan and are thinking about some training go to Bamboo Bay, you won't be disappointed!"
